Renewing Women's Life Skills
(ReneWLS)
When enrolled in the Sponsorship Program, Project Independence
will provide rights awareness and job skills training programs to
1200 women through the Renewing Womens Life Skills (ReneWLS)
Program. Women will attend bi-weekly sessions in small groups to
raise awareness about their rights, politics, family issues, health
care and to cultivate leadership skills. Through these sessions,
women form a support system for one another to fill the void created
by years of conflict and oppression, enabling them to lean on each
other and create a mechanism for progress in their lives and communities.

Women will also have the opportunity to receive job skills training.
Training classes in traditional and non-traditional skills build
on and strengthen existing skills and help women master new trades
such as carpentry, upholstery, shoe repair and candle-making. Skills
offered are designed to give women concrete options for income generating
opportunities in their local economy.
