My club, Soroptimist International of Anytown, is hosting a dinner to benefit women survivors of war in Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Rwanda - to provide these women with the tools they need to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of war. On March 8th, International Women's Day, we will be sharing a meal featuring dishes from these countries. Ann Smith, a professor at local college and an expert in women in post-conflict situations, will be joining us to share her experiences in working one-on-one with women in post-war countries. Proceeds from "Raising Our Voices" will go to "Project Independence: Women Survivors of War," a joint project between Soroptimist International and Women for Women International. Over the next four years, these two groups will be working together to provide nearly 2,000 women in Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Rwanda with direct aid, skills training and small business loans so they can rebuild their lives in the aftermath of war.
