Collaboration with International Policymakers:

October 27, 2005: Sweeta Noori, Country Director-Afghanistan addressed the United Nations Security Council.

October 13-15, 2005: Seida Saric, Country Director-Bosnia and Herzegovina , shared a panel with Muhummad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, to discuss new trends in microfinance at the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society in Deauville, France.

July 29 – August 3, 2005: Zainab Salbi attended the Tallberg Forum in Sweden.

May 25, 2005: Manal Omar and Iraq Country Director participated in a briefing for the Chairman of the Iraq Women’s Congressional Caucus to discuss Women for Women International’s programs in Iraq and the status of women there.

April 8, 2005: Zainab Salbi gave opening remarks at the Ditchley Foundation Conference “The Role of Women in the Developing World” in Oxfordshire, UK.

January 2004: Zainab Salbi and Women for Women International – Iraq Country Director Manal Omar met with Lady Anne Greenstock, wife of British Ambassador Greenstock, in our Baghdad office to brief her on the status of women and their role in post-war reconstruction.

December 2003: Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, Women for Women International’s Global Ambassador attended our conference in Amman, Jordan to meet with Iraqi participants of the conference. The objective of the conference was to promote information sharing between the organizers, Iraqi women, and women from other post-conflict societies. This discussion helped build the capacity of the Iraqi women to take a leadership role in advancing the full participation of women in the rebuilding of Iraq. The conference was developed in cooperation with UNIFEM, Women Waging Peace and the World Bank.

October 2003: Zainab Salbi and Sweeta Noori, Women for Women International -- Afghanistan Country Director, met with former Afghan King Mohammad Zaher Shah in Kabul to brief His Majesty on Women for Women International -- Afghanistan’s activities.

2003: Women for Women International -- Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the Coalition for Gender Equality to advocate for faster implementation of the Law for Gender Equality and raise awareness among government officials and the public about the law.

March 8, 2002: Wolfgang Petritch, Former High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited our office in Sarajevo to celebrate International Women’s Day and honor the organization for its work with women survivors of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
