Women are Lined Up at Our Gates Hoping and Fearing...

Right now, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo thousands of women struggle each day not only to feed themselves and their families, but also to escape savage attacks.

You see, the epidemic of rape in the DRC has reached epic proportions and the women there are literally lined up seeking help…help that can only come from you.

Look at their faces and you will see hope and fear.  Hope that this will be the day that a far-away friend reaches out and delivers them from the ravages of war; and fear that they may be turned away if there aren’t enough sponsors and donations today.

If we don’t have a sponsor to match a woman with, we cannot enroll her in our program.

As a friend of Women for Women International, I know that you want to be informed of the urgent situation and how you can help today.  We have come so far in our work in the DRC, expanding to remote villages and doubling the number of women in the program in the past two years.  You and I know that these women have already suffered so much but today violence looms and even more women are seeking a way out.  Whether you give or sponsor, I am asking for you to take action now for the women of the Congo.

In the Congo, “Women are raped, mutilated and kept as sex slaves, then they are turned away from their families and left with no hope to rebuild their lives.”  As reported on the front page of the New York Times this month, there is no age limit to the horrors.  Women as old as 75 and as young as 3 are victims of this brutality.

Without hope the women can not survive.

Without hope the women can not survive.Right now you can end their fears and be the hope these women need.  Simply click here to sponsor a woman from the DRC and not only restore her hope, but help her make a new life for herself and her family.

Your support will go directly to women like Jeanette, whose “normal” life changed in an instant when militants stormed her village.  As she fled, she slipped and fell into the hands of soldiers who brutally attacked her with machetes.  After raping her, they cut off her hands and left her to die.

Today thanks to help from supporters like you, Jeanette is proudly learning new skills and is hopeful her children will grow up to live a normal life…

You can help today.

I know the situation seems overwhelming but you can make a difference for even more of the thousands of Congolese women like Jeanette, and help physically and emotionally support her recovery for just $27 a monthThat’s less than a dollar a day – or a few less lattes this month – yet it will mean the world to one woman.

Or if you’d rather, you can make a donation. You can give $50, $40 or even $20.  Whether you give or sponsor, I am asking for you to take action now for the women of the Congo.  You’re not only changing the course of a woman’s life; you’re improving the future for entire villages and communities.

Thank you so much for your continuing compassion and for sharing all the good that is in your heart with a woman in the Congo today.  It means everything!
