Highlights of the 2007 Awards Gala

More than 800 people attended the Gala and celebrated our awardees and to honor the courage and resilience of the women in our program.

A total of $1.26 million was raised in support of our work -- critical resources that enable us to reach the more than 65,000 women we serve each day.

Recipients of Awards were:

  • Pulitzer-Prize winning author and activist Alice Walker, introduced by Gloria Steinem
  • The Honorable Aloisea Inuymba, Senator from Rwanda, introduced by New York Times columnist, Nick Kristoff
  • Google Vice President, Sheryl Sandberg Ali Hewson, Co-Founder with Bono and Rory Eagan, of EDUN Clothing

Highlight of the Evening:

  • Violette’s Story: Surviving the Genocide to become a thriving businesswoman and leader in her community.
  • And the touching first-meeting of Voilette and her sponsor, Liz.
