Highlights of the 2007 Awards Gala
More than 800 people attended the Gala and celebrated our awardees
and to honor the courage and resilience of the women in our program.
A total of $1.26 million was raised in support of our work --
critical
resources that enable us to reach the more than 65,000
women we serve each day.
Recipients of Awards were:
Pulitzer-Prize winning author and activist Alice Walker,
introduced by Gloria Steinem
The Honorable Aloisea Inuymba, Senator from Rwanda,
introduced by New York Times columnist, Nick Kristoff
Google Vice President, Sheryl Sandberg
Ali Hewson, Co-Founder with Bono and Rory Eagan, of EDUN Clothing
Highlight of the Evening:
Violette’s Story: Surviving the Genocide to become
a thriving businesswoman and leader in her community.
And the touching first-meeting of Voilette and her sponsor, Liz.
