Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Initiative

10,000 Women is a five-year, global initiative to drive economic growth and opportunity by providing 10,000 underserved women with a business and management education. The program is founded on research conducted by Goldman Sachs, the World Bank and others which suggests that such an investment can help to create jobs and generate revenue growth, and that investments in women can have a multiplier effect that extends beyond the individual beneficiaries to their families and their broader communities.

Since its launch in March 2008, 10,000 Women has become active in 22 countries including Afghanistan, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Rwanda and the United States. The program is coordinated at the local level by a network of more than 70 academic and nonprofit partners, including Women for Women International. Women for Women International and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women have partnered together since 2008 to empower women as business owners and entrepreneurs in the countries where Women for Women International works.

Sharon Davis Design Studio

Sharon Davis Design embraces the professional ideal of positively changing the way people live, both globally and locally, through multidisciplinary rigor and compassionate empathy for the Earth and humankind. Thanks to the generous gifts of financial support and in-kind architectural design from Sharon Davis Design, Women for Women International is on track to open its first two Women's Opportunity Centers beginning in 2011 in Kosovo and Rwanda.

These projects integrate Women for Women International's programmatic goals with the unique challenges of building centers to train women in Kosovo and rural Rwanda. Sharon Davis' studio's design is generated by the immediate reality of real-life issues. In Rwanda, they have integrated their design with the WfWI's mission by introducing brick-making as a job training skill and using these bricks as a key building material. Innovative design also addressed both water and cooking fuel shortages in ways that can be incorporated into the education.

The project was structured and financed in a manner that included the support of the Rwandan government, private individuals and a network of consultants recruited by their studio to donate their time and expertise.
