On International Women’s Day – March 8th 2010, Women all around the world met on bridges, for Women for Women International’s campaign to yes to peace and no to war. In London Women for Women International met on the Millennium Bridge along with Annie Lennox, Cherie Lunghi, Sarah Brown and hundreds of women supporters!

Since 2005, kate spade new york and Women for Women International have been working together to promote micro-enterprises for women in the still recovering communities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The enterprise is the next step in an ongoing product development partnership over the past four years. Women for Women International will provide the training in knitting for the women, with creative direction from kate spade new york. The partnership continues to expand, with the addition of Kosovo in Spring 2010.

Call for Action to Stop Fighting in DR Congo

Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo are calling for assistance and strong international leadership to prevent further deterioration of the devastating humanitarian situation in the country’s eastern provinces. Tony Gambino, an expert on development issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, argued at a panel discussion hosted by Women for Women International in New York that we need to take a ‘No More Victims’ approach towards Congo.

Women for Women International Country Director Christine Karumba said that fear among women in eastern Congo is rising. Many have endured and witnessed gross sexual violence and are afraid that mass rape will increase if the country returns to full-scale war.
