Volunteer in the US

"Volunteers are the lifeblood of the hundreds of thousands of nonprofit organizations in this country."

– Sara Melendez

In the spirit of Volunteer Appreciation Week it is our pleasure to spotlight two amazing volunteers: Elaine Joselovitz and Elise Lavidor.

Elaine and Elisehave both gone the extra mile as volunteers, and are true assets to our team! They are wonderful examples of the type of dedicated volunteers that represent Women for Women International’s volunteer community: enthusiastic, hard-working, and above all united in the fight towards women’s equality and well-being around the world. We thank you and congratulations!

Quotes from both Elaine and Elise:

Elaine Joselovitz:

How often can you make people happy? Especially people you’ve never met. Because I am always so happy to receive a letter from the sister I sponsor, I know that helping get the mail out to the sisters and sponsors is making many women happy. Thank you Women for Women International for giving me the opportunity to help.

Elise Lavidor:

I have been doing volunteer work at Women for Women, International for the past four years and can honestly say that it has been a privilege to work with such interesting, engaging people and to assist an organization that is such a vital lifeline for so many women around the globe. May this organization continue to transform the lives of those who are touched by it; thereby, working toward changing global consciousness so that we may, one day, live in a more peaceful world.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Women for Women International. We are honored that you are thinking about donating your time to our organization.

Volunteers are vital to the organization’s overall functioning and success. Since its inception in 1993, volunteers have supported Women for Women International in providing services to more than 93,000 women in the countries in which we work, distributing over $32 million dollars in direct aid and loans. We rely on our volunteers for administrative work that makes the programs possible, and ensures that as much of our collected funds as possible goes to help the women we serve.

The Experience:

We have an on-going need for volunteers in our D.C. office Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and on Tuesday evening between 5pm and 8pm. Volunteering is an ideal opportunity for individuals that are interested in international and women's issues and learning about women's experiences around the globe. Much of the volunteer work we currently have available is in the Sponsorship Department, and involves data entry and processing of the thousands of letters that are exchanged between sponsors and their sisters each month. The atmosphere is convivial and many of our volunteers become regular fixtures in the office.

Before you start volunteering for Women for Women International, we ask that you attend a short information session. These sessions are held on the first Tuesday of every month from 6.00pm to 6.30pm. At the end of the Information Session all newly signed volunteers are welcome to join the regular volunteer session occurring in the adjacent room from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
To attend a new volunteer information session, please click here to sign up.

Space is limited and reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Email confirmation will be sent within 48 hours of scheduled session, with directions and information about attending the desired session.

If you are unable to make the evening information sessions, but are able to schedule daytime appointments, Tuesday through Thursday, between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, please contact us at volunteers@womenforwomen.org. Our human resources coordinator will be in contact to schedule a convenient time to meet with you.
