Founded in 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources needed to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. WfWI has distributed millions of dollars in aid and microcredit loans and has provided its multi-faceted core program of direct aid, emotional support, rights and leadership education, job skills training and small business development to thousands of women worldwide. WfWI works with socially-excluded women survivors of war in eight countries around the world and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Policy Interns will support a variety of short- and long-term research and policy analysis activities under the direction of Women for Women Internationals President/COO.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting policy survey across HQ and Affiliates
  • Developing policy and authority framework that has been approved by Global Leadership Team
  • Establishing policy framework architecture on Women for Women Internationals’ intranet
  • Collect all policy manuals, confirm version with supervising manager, upload to Women for Women Internationals intranet
  • Mapping content of manuals across affiliates and departments
  • Developing Risk assessment framework that has been completed by Global leadership team
  • Evaluating risk assessment against policy framework
  • Researching and catalog policy information
  • Supporting Women for Women International Global Leadership team in furtherance of their policy objectives through targeted research, analysis and the development of written materials

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting Policy Analyst with research and analysis such as legislative tracking and review/synthesis of relevant articles, surveys and reports
  • Researching and reporting on various outreach and media opportunities
  • Editing, proofreading and assisting with departmental reports, website content and publications as needed
  • Helping research and draft outlines and drafts of relevant articles, talking points, policy briefs and other written materials that promote WfWI programs and recommendations to external audiences.

2010 Winter - Special Events Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:
Women for Women International currently has one unpaid Special Events Intern position available during the winter/spring term. We prefer a full-time commitment, but extraordinary part-time applicants will also be considered. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Leadership Gifts Events, the successful candidate will work on logistics and planning for the organizatio's annual awards gala and major donor cultivation events around the country, including: movie screenings, policy panels, dinner and cocktail receptions, young professional events, mother/daughter events, and others.

This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to develop the necessary skills for a successful career in non-profit event planning, fund-raising or donor cultivation. The Special Events Intern's tasks will include assisting with pre and post-event communication, revenue and expense tracking, coordination of event logistics, on-site event support, and database management.

Previous event planning experience is not necessary, but attention to detail, dependability and the drive to be an asset to the event team are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs are a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with logistics and planning for Women for Women International's annual gala and major donor events around the country
  • Assisting with RSVP management, including handling phone calls, emails, mail, etc.
  • Assisting with content development, layout, writing and editing of quarterly major donor e-newsletter
  • Maintaining accurate accounting of event revenue and expenses
  • Administrative duties, e.g., pdating donor database records, creating donor kits, shipping materials, etc.

This position will focus on assisting grant research, writing and editing; proposal and report tracking; and grant program database maintenance. We have one full-time unpaid internship position available during the 2010 Winter / Spring term: A full-time commitment is preferred, but part-time interns will also be considered. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying and researching grant making institutions, such as foundations, government and UN, and their proposal guidelines
  • Assisting with Foundation Center research
  • Assisting with report and proposal research and writing
  • Editing and proofreading of proposals, reports and letters
  • Maintaining and updating foundation records in database and folders
  • Maintaining tracking sheets for grant report and proposal deadlines
  • Filing, mailing and assisting with weekly meeting agenda item updates

The Major Donor Relations and Stewardship Intern will report directly to the Institutional Advancement staff. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to obtain experience in fund-raising for women’s development programs, including how to identify and research prospective donors; to help steward major donor and major donor prospects; will assist with publications research, writing and editing. We have one full-time unpaid internship position available during the winter/spring term: While a full-time commitment is preferred, part-time intern will also be considered. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Institutional Advancement team, particularly the individual major gift officers, with all aspects of major donor relations and gift stewardship
  • Coordinate and write major donor correspondence, including solicitation letters, steward reports, online appeals, donor trip briefings, and other communication
  • Manage donor acknowledgement process
  • Coordinate and send out follow-up materials following major donor visits conducted by major gift officers
  • Provide logistics support for donor trips, major donor visits, small events, dinners and receptions
  • Draft, edit and proofread concept papers, letters of inquiry, and proposals for major donor prospects
  • Liaise with marketing, grassroots, sponsorship, and global programs colleagues to coordinate joint efforts with Institutional Advancement 
  • Maintain donor records in the fundraising database and facilitate data entry when appropriate
  • Conduct thank you calls and write thank you notes to major donors
  • Work closely with the Executive Office to receive downloads on major donor meetings and contacts conducted by the Global Leadership Team and coordinate follow-up steps

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Women for Women International's Marketing and Development Intern will report directly to the Annual Giving Officer and Marketing Database and Analytics Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with acknowledgement process

2010 Winter - Sponsorship Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sponsorship Program is a direct, personal, hands-on way for women in the U.S. and over 50 other countries to help women survivors of war in eight countries overseas. Sponsors are matched with a woman in one of Women for Women International's operating countries, and correspond with their "sisters" who attend a year of life and job skills training. The Sponsorship Department is always busy, always active, and is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to obtain experience in the international non-profit arena.

Interns in this department will be involved with multiple aspects of the program, and will work independently on long term projects over the course of the semester. You will be at the heart of our Sponsorship Program, working directly with letters from sponsors and participants, as well as communications to and from our chapter offices. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in Sponsorship Program administration including:
  • Processing and mailing of letters from sponsors and participants.
  • Assist in matching process of sponsors with their sisters, including database updates and preparing and mailing correspondence regarding the status of their sisters.
  • Contribute to writing and editing communications, blog, and outreach materials.
  • Coordinate with chapter office staff for necessary updates and information.
  • Provide administrative and database support to Sponsorship Program
  • A wide variety of other duties as assigned

SKILLS:

  • Ability to work as part of a team for many tasks while also working independently on your own projects.
  • Experience, comfort with, or willingness to learn the following applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Experience with WordPress is a plus.

This position will also provide experience with CRM (Constituent relationship Management) tools, and financial systems. The position is unpaid with academic credit available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and publish updating of revenue reports
  • Handle daily data import and validation
  • Assist in creation of revenue and operation analytics
  • Update and maintain the integrity of the database and user manual, and assist end users
  • Assist with letter exchange between sponsors and program participants, including overseeing volunteer staff
  • Assist in writing, proofreading and editing of materials for sponsors communication
  • Assist and serve as a representative of the organization at informational events
  • Opportunities to assist marketing department are available
