September 13, 2004: Zainab Salbi was the keynote speaker at the Pennsylvania Governor’s conference in Philadelphia.
June 16, 2004: Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chuck Hagel co-sponsored a reception on Capitol Hill welcoming Women for Women International Country Directors, policymakers and supporters to celebrate the work of the organization. Country Directors from Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kosovo, Nigeria and Rwanda discussed the current status of women in their countries and the importance of women's roles in the reconstruction and development process.
April 23, 2004: Manal Omar, Women for Women International - Iraq Country Director, held a briefing for Congressional members and staff on Capitol Hill on the need to ensure women's active participation in the reconstruction process in Iraq. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones and the Congressional Women's Congress sponsored the briefing.
March 17, 2004: Secretary of State Colin Powell met with Sweeta Noori, Women for Women International – Afghanistan Country Director, and seven other women leaders to discuss the role of women in Afghanistan and in the upcoming elections.
March 12, 2004: Zainab Salbi attended President George W. Bush’s International Women’s Day briefing at the White House. Remarks were made by President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush regarding the status of women in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.March 8, 2004: Ambassador L. Paul Bremer shared breakfast with Iraqi participants and Women for Women International -- Iraq staff members to celebrate International Women’s Day and the opening of the first Women’s Opportunity Center in Baghdad.
March 8, 2004: Zainab Salbi was a guest at the U.S. State Department’s briefing on International Women’s Day with Secretary of State Colin Powell and Iraqi Minister Nasreen Berwari.
March 8, 2004: Amjad Atallah, Board Member and Co-founder of Women for Women International, spoke as a panelist regarding Women for Women International’s programs in Iraq at a Women’s Peace Breakfast hosted by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.
