Letters
from Sponsors
From
a sponsor to her sister in Nigeria
My
dear friend Atong,
I
very much hope this letter reaches you. Two days before Christmas,
we received two letters from you; one dated 19 September and one
dated 1 October. We were VERY relieved to learn that you were delivered
of a healthy baby and so happy that you had your prayers answered
and got the male child you had hoped for. I can’t find adequate
words to tell you, Atong, how honored we are to have had you give
your baby our name. We are so touched by this, as were our children
when they heard the news. I cried, with happiness!
It
was made clear to me, from the beginning, that I would likely be
asked to transfer sponsorship to another woman at some point in
time. As mentioned briefly in my last note, Atong, (which I hope
you received) I’m so happy that you’re doing well and
have learned so much from the program. But, I’m having a hard
time giving up corresponding with you. Our relationship means a
great deal to me. I must focus on the fact that you’re moving
ahead and that you have good health and a wonderful family. If not
for Women for Women International, I’d never have experienced
the joy of knowing you. I’ll ask if there is some way I can
continue to write to you. Please know that you have a friend in
the United States and that the Adams Family in Washington is so
very proud to have a namesake in Nigeria.
We
send our love to you and to your family, and a special hug to Baby
Adams.
Wishing
you all good things,
Linda
