Women for Women International is looking for a few dedicated sponsors to join a new group of supporters we are calling our Angel Sponsors.

As you know, our sponsorship program consists of 12 months of vital education and training for the women in post war and conflict countries with the goal of moving them from victim to survivor to active citizen. Each participant in our programs is matched to a sponsor supporter, who provides funding to cover her cost of participation, and also emotional support and encouragement through the exchange of letters.

Unfortunately, some women in our program lose their sponsors before their training ends - depriving them of critical support they need as they complete the program.

Each month, hundreds of sisters lose their sponsors through no fault of their own. We are looking for volunteers to adopt these women, providing vital support as they complete their training As an Angel Sponsor, you would agree to occasionally take on an additional sister who has lost her original sponsor, but still has several months left on the program. Your additional Angel Sister may have as little as 2 months or as much as 8 months left to complete her program. At this time, you must be an active sponsor with your sponsorship account up to date to join the program.

You will be matched with one of these women when we have a need and charged an additional $27 a month for the remaining months of your Angel Sister's program. In most respects this sponsorship is identical to your existing sponsorship(s). You may exchange letters, assuming there is sufficient time before she graduates. You will also receive details such as your Angel Sister's name, number of children, and her current living situation, as you did with your current sister.

So many women are losing out on the valuable emotional support that comes with having sponsor. You have the opportunity to become an angel in another's woman's life.

FAQs

Why do participants lose their Sponsors?

Unfortunately, there many reasons why Sponsors have to end their sponsorships, from family matters to financial reasons.  We are very grateful for all our Sponsors’ support and hope they continue to be part of this movement.

How much will this cost me?

Your Angel Sponsorship is no different from your regular sponsorship.  You will be charged $27 per month until your Angel Sister graduates from the program.

Will I be automatically rematched with a new Angel Sister after she graduates?

Angel Sponsors will be matched on an as-needed basis; however we will strive to call on your generosity only occasionally.  After your Angel Sister graduates, we will not ask you to sponsor another Angel Sister for at least 4 months  We will notify you as soon as you are matched with your next Angel Sister.  All regular sponsorships you support will renew as soon as the participant graduates

How can I leave the Angel Sponsorship Program?

Can I write letters to my Angel Sister?

Yes, in fact we hope you will!  You may write to your new sister, but depending on the length of time left in her program, there might not be enough time to exchange letters.  But even if you can write one letter or send a photo, it would mean everything to your sister.  We hear everyday how the women in the field treasure your letters forever.

I forgot my Angel Sister's details – how can I get them?

The details of your Angel Sister are on the welcome kit that you received when you were first matched with her. If you cannot locate your Sister details, contact us at sponsorship@womenforwomen.org, or by phone at (202) 521-0016 or (888)504-3247 and we will send you the information. 

Can I choose where my Angel Sister lives?

Unfortunately, we may not have participants from all countries that are in need of this type of support. Therefore we cannot offer a choice of where the Angel Sister lives. We hope to give each woman the opportunity to finish her training and graduate with the rest of her class. 

Can I just be an Angel Sponsor and not have a regular sponsorship?

At this time, our systems will not allow for Angel sponsorship only.  You must be an active sponsor to join this program.

How does the Angel program work?

  • You sign up to join the Angel Sponsor Program
  • You will be entered into a pool of Angel Sponsors who have agreed to support a woman whose Sponsor has dropped out of the program
  • As and when we have the need, you will be matched with your Angel Sister
  • You will receive an email notifying you of your new Angel Sister
  • You will receive information on your new sister in the mail
  • Your may exchange letters with your Angel Sister
  • Your Angel Sister will continue her program for anything from 2 to 9 months
  • Your Angel Sister will graduate with her class
  • You will receive an evaluation after your Angel Sister completes the program
  • You will be entered back into the Angel Sponsor pool
  • When needed, we will match you again with your next Angel Sister (but not within four months of your last Angel Sister’s graduation).
