Your Sponsorship Connection:

What to Expect in the Journey

The Journey Begins Only When We Find a Sponsor.

Your sister is one of the unseen warriors of humanity. Despite what she has suffered, she has the courage and the resolve to face the future - and dare to hope for a better life.

Her journey begins the moment she is matched with a sponsor. Only then can she be enrolled in the Women for Women International program and begin the process of rebuilding her life.

Throughout this journey, you will be her partner and her inspiration.

A lifeline to your sister

The women we serve have, quite literally, lost everything. They have been uprooted from their homes, and often, have watched as their husbands and children are killed. They are socially excluded.

They are living in extreme poverty, most of them with little or no access to clean water, food, medicine, or even shelter. Many have several children to support, or other family members who rely on them.

Your contributions provide direct financial assistance

Thanks to Sponsorship contributions, for the first time in their lives, sisters may have the opportunity to feed their families or buy medicine when their children are desperately ill. Your financial assistance is absolutely critical to your sister's ability to rebuild her life. As you can imagine, until her basic human needs are taken care of, it is extremely difficult for your sister to focus on her future, or he future of her family and community.

At the same time as you are providing for her basis needs, you are allowing her to participate in the Women for Women International program, where she can learn skills that help her to earn a living, and actually participate in the rebuilding of her family, her community, and her nation.

We'll keep you informed

As a Sponsor, you will receive monthly email updates on your sister's progress throughout the program. You'll also receive our quarterly newsletter - Outreach that will provide you with a special message from Zainab Salbi, news about our overseas programs, and compelling stories about women survivors from around the world.

For the timeliest information, check out Breaking News or read Notes from the Field, a regularly updated blog from overseas.

Learn more about your sister's culture

To better understand your sister, it will be helpful for you to learn more about her culture and the history of her country. The challenges she faces are very different depending on her culture, the way that women are perceived, and the economic, social and political events of recent decades.

A Day in the Life

You'll find a profile of every nation we serve on this website, including updates on our work in the field.

Your sister graduates from the program

Near the end of your sister's participation in the program, you'll be notified that that she is graduating. Graduation day is one of enormous joy and celebration, not only for your sister, but also for her family and community. It is a milestone in every sister's life - and we hope, in yours as well.

You are matched with another sister

Shortly after your sister graduates, the journey begins a new. You will be automatically matched with another sister who will be given the chance to enter the program and rebuild her life, with your compassionate support.

"I thought it was going to be me that did the giving," says one Sponsor. "But I was the one who truly received the gift."
