Audry Shematsi serves as the Country Director for Women for Women International – Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Audry brings over 10 years of work experience in the humanitarian and development sector with organizations such as Oxfam, Tearfund International, and ActionAid. Most recently, Audry was the Country Gender and Protection Program Manager for DRC in Mercy Corps. Audry’s activism for gender equity started in the Democratic Republic of Congo where she implemented programs that contributed to the consideration of women concerns at the center of all peace negotiations.
Her success, determination and contribution to gender justice in the DRC got her to expand and replicate the skill and experience internationally in sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, South Sudan and South Africa). She is also fluent in French and English. This role actually welcomes Audry back to Women for Women International since she worked for two years as a trainer with Women for Women International early in her career! She believes that equity and gender justice is possible through a conjugate effort from both women and men, aimed at changing the cultures and behaviors that oppress women and are enshrined in laws and policies of our countries.
