On August 22nd, famine has officially been declared in Gaza. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a United Nations-backed partnership, announced that a quarter of all Palestinians in Gaza are starving – more than 500,000 people – with that number expected to rise to more than 640,000 within six weeks.
This declaration confirms that this famine is entirely man-made and needs immediate response to stop the surge of avoidable deaths. Since the famine is man-made, it can be halted and reversed.

The astronomical price of ingredients — what precious little makes it through borders or airdrops — has been completely out of reach, forcing our local partner Wefaq to close kitchen operations.
They have switched to distribution of shelf stable food parcels but are focused on resuming kitchen operations to reach as many families as possible.
