Mediha Ibrahim Alhamad

Mediha Ibrahim Alhamad

Mediha Ibrahim Alhamad is a Yazidi activist and filmmaker. Mediha’s eponymous movie Mediha premiered in 2023 at the Doc NYC Film Festival, opening to international acclaim and winning the Grand Jury Prize. The film follows Mediha’s story. At the age of 10, Mediha experienced captivity at the hands of ISIS, and was later released and placed in a camp for internally displaced people in Iraqi Kurdistan. She collaborated with documentarist Hassan Oswald to share her story and raise awareness of the challenges the Yazidi people face. Mediha is currently studying for her General Education Development (GED) degree. She continues to be an advocate for the humanitarian rights of the Yazidi people, and, in the future, she hopes to pursue a legal career to help further the rights of women and girls.
