#SheDares To Act Against Sexual Violence

Conflict-Related Sexual Violence is not a tragic inevitability of war—it’s a deliberate tactic.

And it is one that can be stopped.

To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict on June 19th, Women for Women International (WfWI) is launching a global campaign #SheDaresToAct to champion the women surviving Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) and daring to challenge it.

Sexual violence is not a tragic side effect of war but a deliberate tactic that’s on the rise. From Sudan to the DRC and Ukraine, it is being used to terrify, shame and destroy communities. However, far from being inevitable, CRSV is preventable, and it can be stopped.

Women survivors and advocates often know what works to address the challenges of conflict related sexual violence in their communities. Safe spaces, trauma-informed counselling, challenging stigma, engaging men in the community and supporting those seeking justice and reparations are proven, impactful interventions already transforming lives in conflict zones.

“Survivors are not passive recipients of aid—they are agents of change. The world must listen to them, fund them, and follow their lead.” — Dr. Leyla Hussein, Board Member, WfWI

Virtual Panel: Standing Up Against Conflict-Related Sexual Violence

As a part of the #SheDaresToAct campaign, Women for Women International invites you to a powerful virtual panel discussion hosted by our International Board Chair, Nunu Ntshingila.

Hear from a panel of formidable women about courageous women from Ukraine and South Sudan who are standing up against this pervasive war crime—and ask your questions live.

For decades, WfWI has implemented a survivor-centered response to all forms of violence against women, including CRSV. At WfWl, we believe in solutions rooted in survivor leadership, community mobilization, and long-term recovery.

Our approach includes:

  • Putting survivors at the centre approach which seeks to build the capacity of organizations not specialized in gender-based violence to better support survivors who spontaneously disclose experiences of violence.

There are many ways you can get involved!

  1. Follow us on social media (@womenforwomen) and engage with us during the campaign.

  1. Sign up for the virtual panel discussion.

  1. Read and share the stories of these amazing women and men who are daring to change their and their families' futures.
