Book Club Series: Your Take on 'She Said'

In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Women for Women International’s Book Club read She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement.

As we read this book together, we explored some universal realities of sexual assault and harassment, the power imbalances that lead to protecting offenders, and the strength of women united. We wanted to get your take on the book and asked you to share your thoughts and reactions on Instagram, using the hashtag #WFWIBookClub or by responding to our Instagram stories. Here’s what readers had to say:

Reading #SheSaid and wow do I have some thoughts. 1. Lisa Bloom advising Harvey Weinstein on how to frame himself as the hero of the sexual abuse scandal broke my heart 💔 2. Institutional action at TWC was only taken when it impacted the bottom line, NOT when women were reporting their experiences. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3. Ashley Judd is my hero! 💖 Such an interesting and important book!

Finished reading the book #SheSaid: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement for the #wfwibookclub and highly recommend it. So many thoughts and lessons, from the importance of women standing together to amplify each other's voice and power to how current institutions are incentivized to silence survivors rather than protect them. (See quote above!) Also a lot of other interesting ideas, like how following documentation helped bring to light these stories as opposed to just testimo

Also a lot of other interesting ideas, like how following documentation helped bring to light these stories as opposed to just testimonies but also exploring the complex impact of speaking out through the experience of Dr. Ford, why people may choose to or choose not to."

Women for Women International CEO, Laurie Adams, also read She Said and responded to our Instagram story with:

"Brave, dedicated, smart women up against incredible odds but don’t give up!"
