'Localization isn't working'

Localization is currently the trend but trusting local leadership is more important than simply shifting resources.
In a new op-ed for Devex, Chief Operating Officer Lydiah Mutimbanyoka explores the idea of change and development being locally led, even if that means greater risk.
At Women for Women, we understand the importance of local knowledge and diversity. We employ local staff to make direct connections with the women we serve and strive to not only provide local partners with the resources they need but to understand their knowledge and expertise without having them compromise to adhere to western norms. For our sector to look at this effectively, we need to start asking questions such as: What does localization mean for those local partners in the countries we work in?
