CGTN Africa Spotlights Soccer Ball Business Led by WfWI Graduate

“This ball has been manufactured by some ladies who survived the genocide in [Rwanda]…they are producing many beautiful things.”

-Gianni Infantino, FIFA President
Grace Muteteri, a graduate of Women for Women Rwanda’s Stronger Women, Stronger Nations Program, was recently interviewed by CGTN Africa for her idea to create soccer balls as part of her training at the Women’s Opportunity Center in Urugo (WOC).
Her innovative idea has seen women at the WOC use their skills training to intricately weave and distribute soccer balls worldwide. For Grace, who learned how to weave baskets and make soccer balls as a young girl, she and her peers were able to hone their entrepreneurial skills at the WOC and find a unique way to earn an income. Their soccer balls were even endorsed by Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, during this year’s 73rd FIFA Congress. The WOC was established by Women for Women International thanks to the generosity of Bloomberg Philanthropies and individual donors, and serves as a hub for women to develop various social and economic skills to improve their living conditions.
